mary f asked:

I planted red peppers, egg plant , yellow and green squash. The leaves are falling off of the peppers and the squash is wilted up and dying. I thought the organic topsoil was supposed to be very good. I built the boxes, lined them with gardening fabric, placed 3 inches of drainage rock at the bottom of the boxes. I bought 4 cubic yards of organic mushroom topsoil and placed it in the boxes. The boxes are 3 feet wide by 12 feet long. The dirt is 16inches deep. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I won a Compost Bin at my job's Green Fair and am excited as this would be a great addition for my organic vegetable gardens. I have researched the do's and dont's as far as what to add to a compost bin and just want to know a little more on the Do's as far as kitchen items are concerned.
Are paper towels allowed? Shredded newspapers are a yes, so I wondered about shredded paper towels.
Thanks and any other tips to add or don't add would be wonderful! Thanks, guys!
